7 Dq1 Post Week a 150- to 300-word response to the following discussion question by clicking on Reply: Refer to Figure 2 on p. 349 of Psychology and Your Life. Evaluate the Big Five trait approaches to personality. Which personality trait best describes you and why? Openness to experience describes a dimension of cognitive style that distinguishes imaginative, creative people from down to earth, conventional people. Open people are intellectually curious, appreciative of art and sensitive to beauty. They tend to be, compared to close people, more aware of their feelings. They tend to think and act in individualistic, unconventional, and nonconforming ways. They are adventurous and imaginative. Conscientiousness refers to individual differences in the propensity to follow socially prescribed norms for impulse control, to be task- and- goal directed, to be planful delay gratification, and follow norms and rules. Extraversion deals with outgoing, energetic vs. shy, reserved, energy, positive emotions, surgency, and the tendency to seek stimulation in the company of others. Agreeableness has to do with being friendly compassionate vs. competitive, outspoken. A tendency to be compassionate and cooperative rather than suspicious and antagonistic toward others. Neuroticism- sensitive, nervous vs. secure, confident, a tendency to experience unpleasant emotions, such as anger, anxiety, depression, or vulnerability. The one that best describes me is Openness to experience because I am very adventurous and has a very creative imagination. Dq2 Post a 150- to 300-word response to the following discussion question by clicking on Reply: Refer to p. 351352 of Psychology and Your Life. What is self-efficacy? How does this affect your educational goals and career goals? What is the relationship between self-efficacy and self-esteem? According to the text self-efficacy is belief in one's personal capabilities. It underlies people's faith in their ability to carry out a specific behavior. It also helps produce a desired outcome. People who tend to have a high self-efficacy want to reach success. They have higher aspirations and greater persistence in working to reach goals. These people usually achieve greater success than those with low self-efficacy. Having low self-efficacy can really affect one's educational and career goals. They will most likely not try hard to attain and reach goals. These people more than likely do not believe in their own personal capabilities. For example, if a person keeps failing their school work, they most likely won't want to try again. However, if they see that they're making progress they will keep trying and push harder to learn. The people who have direct reinforcement and encouragement from others will develop self-efficacy. This can really affect the outcome on their work and make it easier. By having low self-efficacy it can cause their goals to be much harder to reach. It will mess it up and they will not be able to succeed in life, which is not good. Self-esteem primarily focuses on how we feel about ourselves. The relationship between self-efficacy and self-esteem is that both of them need to be high in order for us to succeed in life. Having low self-efficacy and esteem will affects us in a negative way. Dq3 Post a 150- to 300-word response to the following discussion question by clicking on Reply: Review Figure 1 on p. 368 of Psychology and Your Life. Summarize two theories of intelligence. Which type of intelligence do you think will be a strength for you in your current or future career? Explain your answer. The two theories of intelligence are fluid and crystallized According intelligence. to the text fluid intelligence reflects information-processing capabilities, reasoning, and memory. For example, if were to try and remember a large set of numbers, were using fluid intelligence. Crystallized intelligence is the accumulation of information, skills, and strategies that are learned through experience. They can apply these to problem-solving situations. People with this type of intelligence use long-term memory to recall information. An example of this is recalling information about a certain subject. Recalling this information allows people to draw on past experiences and knowledge of the world. Moreover, the type of intelligence I think will be a strength for me is actually both. I think both fluid and crystallized information is needed in my future career field, which is Information Technology. In this career field I have to have information-processing capabilities. This is what actually fits under fluid intelligence. However, I also have to accumulate information from long-term memory. This goes under the crystallized intelligence. In order for me to succeed I have to be able to use both of these intelligence's. Dq4 Post a 150- to 300-word response to the following discussion question by clicking on Reply: Review p. 363 of Psychology and Your Life. What are behavioral assessments? What are the benefits of behavioral assessments? What issues might arise from being labeled as the result of taking a behavioral assessment? Behavioral assessments are direct measures of an individual's behavior used to describe personality characteristics. Some benefits of behavioral assessments are that they allow psychologists to determine whether intervention techniques have been successful in specific behavioral difficulties. An example of a behavioral difficulty would be a child's shyness. Some issues that might arise from being labeled as the result of the behavioral assessment are not being hired. A lot of places have you take a personality assessment or behavioral assessment when you fill out an application. They use these assessments to help with the hiring decisions. When they look at the assessment that you had taken, they are trying to make sure that you would be right for the job. If the job you were trying to get dealt with people then you would have to be a people person. By a people person I mean friendly and inviting. If you are shy and quiet or not very friendly then you aren't going to get the job. Dq5 Post a 150- to 300-word response to the following discussion question by clicking on Reply: Take the Online Personality Assessment located at the following link: http://www.advisorteam.com/temperament_sorter/register.asp What personality type are you?
