Guide Listening #24 Title: The Marriage of Figaro (le nozze di Figaro) Composer: Mozart I. Melody (The melody was made up in ___________and had a very high range.) A. Recitative- talky patter singing B. Aria C. Legato- smooth and flowing D. Motives, Repeated Phrases, ascending and descending II. Harmony (The harmony in this piece was achieved through ____________.) A. Polyphonic B. Both Major and Minor IIIa. Rhythm (The rhythm can be described as ____________.) A. HomorhythmicB. Ritardo C. Rubato IIIb. Tempo (The tempo was ___________) A. Presto B. Rubato IVa. Timbre (The timbre of this piece was formed through its homophonic style.) A. Legato B. Terzetto- trio IVb. Dynamics (The dynamics of this piece were _____________.) A. Terraced Dynamics B. Dynamic Shading Opera buffa- funny opera V. Personal Observation Reaction Overall / the piece was interesting. The use of vibrato was a little overwhelming and I did enjoy it, even if it was very complex. I enjoy how at the begining Duple Meter, the words definitely fit the music, so good word painting. I liked how the recitative melody and rhythm was definitely diverse. The rubato tempo was fitting for the fast past conversation. The terraced dynamics were enjoyable, it was cool how they showed emphasis on certain lines by adding all the voices at once in homorhythmic style, and showing emphasis on a character by deleting voices making in monorhythimc. The funniest line when is when he accuses her of lying, and she just responds that it is just common knowledge. The part has the most action is when Susanna fainted. The motive is at the trio when the count expands on it.
