Being a responsible citizen at USF, or on any college environment, to me, means setting
the standard on acceptable and respectable behavior. What this means, is that when others see
you representing USF, or any college, that they see a responsible and successful young man or
woman, increasing their likelihood of joining the community. There are a lot of unhealthy
decisions that someone can make while on their college campus. The main thing that can become
very unhealthy for a college campus is parties.
It is not uncommon for parties to get to extreme and therefore unsafe and out of hand.
Parties/social events are ok, but as soon as alcohol is introduced, things can get really bad. When
people start drinking and getting drunk they behave in irrational ways, which can lead to fights,
rape, and deaths. On college campus, where people are striving to succeed and advance in life, it
is unfair for people to start acting this way. Everyone has the right to a safe environment, and
with people fighting, playing music, and just being loud at all times of the day and night, it
becomes an issue. can Alcohol also lead, to the introduction of weed, pills, and many other types
of drugs at a party.
College is portrayed in movies, as an easy access to wild parties, and crazy times. When
in actuality college should be used as a tool to excel in life. With all these movies and other types
of media, about college being so fanatical, it is not surprising for college students to try and keep
up the rep. Therefore, I do not feel that the blame for all these wild events and devastating
accidents should be placed on any one person or group. The media has an extrinsic influence on
our lives and our decisions, whether we choose to believe this or not.
I feel that in order for me to stay out of this kind of trouble/lifestyle, I need to just avoid
these types of events. The more a person goes to these kinds of events, the more their

acceptability of it will rise. Drugs and alcohol abuse are very common in teenagers and young
adults, which is why it is so common to find. I feel that because I dream to become an athlete and
I yearn to avoid the mistakes that my pervious family members and friends have made, that I
have good knowledge and goals on avoiding these kinds of things.
