and News Notes Ed Sundt T-C 90 returned to Landon School after three years as Upper School Head at Calverton School. He will be Dean of Faculty at Landon. http://www.landon.net for warmer (or should I say hotter!) climes. I hope to see you one day in AZ. My door and pool will always be open to you. Happy trails. From Stacey Scheper, T-C 96, rascheper@comcast.net My family welcomed our third child in May: Nicholas Wilson Scheper. I m staying home with him for a while and loving every minute of it! The MWP listserve is keeping me in touch with the teaching culture while I m home with my children. From Todd Nichols, T-C 02, todd2nichols@hotmail.com I now teach in Caroline County at Federalsburg Elementary School. My son, Todd Theodore, had his rst birthday on July 5, and my family celebrated the arrival of our second child, Saleta Marie, on July 8. Everyone is great and loving it here on the Eastern Shore. New address: 108 S. University Avenue, Federalsburg, MD 21632. From Nina Parish, T-C 89 With divided feelings, I am writing this to inform you all that I have bought a home in Scottsdale, AZ, to be near my daughter and family. I will be leaving Maryland Tonia (Minor) Pahari, T-C 98 and Manu Pahari celebrated their wedding on July 21, 2004, in Louisa Virgina. She is now a technical editor for product development at KaplanIT in Atlanta, GA. TPahari@KaplanIT.com From: Jamie Biegeleisen, T-C 00, jscoop5@yahoo.com My husband, Adam, accepted a job transfer to NYC, so here we are. In May I nished the Master s in Professional Writing program at TU. New address: 7855 Boulevard East, #10L North Bergen, NJ 07047 From Kristina Berdan, T-C 99, youthdreamer@hotmail.com The Youth Dreamers Crabtown Project crab, All Caught Up in Baltimore, has nally been spotted at the corner of Boston St. and Aliceanna St. in Canton. He is happily living adjacent to expensive town homes (nothing but the best for our crab) and across the street from both The Sip and Bite and Captain James in case he gets hungry. After her successful Ph.D. defense, Maggie Madden visited Charlie Allen in Florida. Charlie is one of the co-founders of the Maryland Writing Project and Maggie is a former director. 14 Elizabeth Fanto, T-C 84, efanto@bcpl.net I have had haiku published in Haiku Canada, and Modern Haiku. I also had three tankas published in the newsletters of the Tanka Society of America.I had a mild stroke in June, and a heart stent inserted in July, but I am ne and almost back to normal, which probably isn t normal given my energy level. Rus VanWestervelt, T-C 89, has had articles two published recently by the National Writing Project. Both articles focus on Rus s passion for creative non ction. The Quarterly piece is a review of the book, Non ction Writing: From the Inside Out, by Laura Robb. The Voice piece is an article on teaching creative non ction, titled Maryland Voices: Publishing Students True Stories. Rus s articles are available online at www.writingproject.org. Carol Pippen, T-C 88, who is the Editor of the Jane Austen Society of North America Newsletter, was on NPR s Diane Rehm Show on October 19, 2005, discussing Jane Austen with Kate Lehrer and Diane Rehm. If you missed the show, you can still hear it at the Diane Rehm website: http://wamu.org/programs/dr/05/10/19.php Nina Shipman-Vick, T-C 04, Jackie Rone, T-C 90, and Emzie King, T-C 04, coordinated an in-service last spring at Cecil Elementary School in Baltimore City. They report enthusiastic participants and a re-creation of the energy and connection found at the Summer Teacher Institute. DaMaris Hill (T-C '04) published a scholarly article, Creating an Archetype: Mythological Lilith in Octavia Butler s Dawn in Warpland: A Journal of Black Literature and Ideas. The journal was published in celebration of the 15th Annual Gwendolyn Brooks Writers Conference for Black Literature and Creative Writing at Chicago State University. 15 From Cheryl (North) Coleman, T-C 97, ccoleman@clearviewcatv.net My review for Hollywood Goes to High School made it into the TC Record. I would like to thank the Delaware Writing Project Writing Retreat for giving me time to write it and share it before I let it sit for two months trying to get up the nerve to send it in. Thanks to all who helped me edit and revise it during those months until I hit the deadline and sent it off. I didn t realize how many people I showed it to until I went to send this message. Seriously, I owe all of you. - Cheryl From Juliet Champion, T-C 05, JulietRChampion@aol.com I recently got news that my personal piece I wrote during the Summer Teacher Institute will be published. The story was a personal memoir about my horse riding experiences. It is in the anthology, and a horse magazine called EQUUS is publishing it on the back cover. I ve also been asked to send in my own pictures. The best part, besides being tremendously attered that they are publishing my work, is that I am actually getting paid for it. What a great feeling. My success would not have occurred without help from the MWP/STI coordinators. Thanks for your encouragement. Juliet http://www.equisearch.com/equus/
