Guide Study Test 2 Short Ids1. Adolph Hitler- Adolph Hitler became the leader of the Nazi party in 1933. He was a private in the German Army during WW1. His Ideas from his book that he wrote in jail, Mein Kamfp, led to the German people voting him chancellor which gave him dictator powers for four years. Later the next year the President of Germany died giving Hitler all of the power. Instead of being called President of Prime Minister, he asked to be called de fuehrer or the leader. His program called Nazism was made exactly like fascism but with hating and blaming all Jewish people. He Hated the Treaty of Versailles and denounced it to his country. All in all Hitler was a bad bad mutha fucker. 2. Harry Truman- As president, Truman faced challenge after challenge in domestic affairs. The tumultuous reconversion of the economy of the United States was marked by severe shortages, numerous strikes, and the passage of the Taft-Hartley Act over his veto. He confounded all predictions to win re-election in 1948, largely due to his famous Whistle Stop Tour of rural America. After his re-election he was able to pass only one of the proposals in his Fair Deal program. He used executive orders to begin desegregation of the U.S. armed forces and to launch a system of loyalty checks to remove thousands of communist sympathizers from government office, even though he strongly opposed mandatory loyalty oaths for governmental employees, a stance that led to charges that his administration was soft on communism. Truman's presidency was also eventful in foreign affairs, with the end of World War II and his decision to use nuclear weapons against Japan, the founding of the United Nations, the Marshall Plan to rebuild Europe, the Truman Doctrine to contain communism, the beginning of the Cold War, the creation of NATO, and the Korean War. Corruption in Truman's administration reached the cabinet and senior White House staff. Republicans made corruption a central issue in the 1952 campaign. 3. Joseph Stalin- Leader of the Fascist country Italy. He believed that all Italians should be so proud of their country that they would steal and take everything from other countries. He hated communism. He was a dictator. 4. Cordell Hull- Secretary of state when Pearl was Harbor bombed. Helped with the policy in Latin America. Chaired the advisory committee of postwar foreign policy. 5. Winston Churchill- Prime minister of Great Britain during WWII. After the outbreak of the Second World War, Churchill was appointed First Lord of the Admiralty. Following the resignation of Neville Chamberlain on 10 May 1940, he became Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and led Britain to victory against the Axis powers. His speeches were a great inspiration to the embattled Allied forces. After losing the 1945 election, he became the leader of the opposition. In 1951, he again became Prime Minister before finally retiring in 1955. Upon his death the Queen granted him the honour of a state funeral, which saw one of the largest assemblies of statesmen in the world. 6. FDR was paralyzed in 1921 but did not let that stop him from becoming president in 1932.His strong quote was "All we have to fear is fear itself" He believed in a strong navy and was very concerned with United States domestic needs. Before becoming president he was the assistant secretary of the navy under President Wilson. He was the only president to serve four terms from 1933-1945. He created the New Deal to help boost the economy and spark work in the unemployed. 7. Henry Stimson was the Secretary of State. He created the Stimson doctrine to try and stop Japan from doing what America fear most and expanding into china. The Stimson doctrine simply stated that American would no longer acknowledge Japan or any of the nations Japan takes by force. Japan depends on the US for trade and this hinders Japans expansion plan for a few years. With this doctrine USA pulls out of an isolated nation 8. Blitzkrieg 9. Cash and Carry was a plan developed by FDR and passed by the Isolationist congress to make money during WWII. The USA came up with the Cash and Carry in 1939 to allow the allied powers, France and England to buy arms under two conditions. France and England had to pay cash this protected the US because they never were paid back for the debts in WWI. The Allied powers also had to carry the weapons out on their own ships to protect Americans from the danger in delivering the arms. This way America can somewhat stay an Isolationist nation.
