Farrell Edward Engr100 October 26, 2007 The potential health risk of using a cell phone: After researching the health risks of intensified cell phone signals1, the ethical question of whether or not to follow through with this design has arose. Through my research I have found the article called "Worrying about Wireless" by Mark Alpert. In his article he talks about the risks of cell phone use and how they are minimal if none. However, with the plans to boost the cell power, the health risks are also boosted. At the current stage in my pretend life, I have a sick child and an amazing job with plenty of benefits. Now I also have a major decision to make, should I take the assignment and possibly injure thousands, or quit my job and put my child's life in jeopardy. If I decide to take the assignment I will take it with the hope that I will be allowed to make changes. This actually is the only reason I would take it. I would try to convince my boss with plenty of convincing evidence that we should change the design and also come up with some other safer alternatives. Being the father that I am there's almost nothing I wouldn't do to keep my child healthy. At this point, it's this job that is keeping my kid getting from really sick. By not taking the job, I will now have no income and a sick child that needs constant attention. My family will be forced to make ends meet by doing whatever is necessary to keep it together. Although I think this is the right moral decision, it still might not be the smartest. In the end I would definitely not take the job. It is morally corrupt and potentially dangerous to many. All humans are naturally rational and to create something that would harm others would be irrational and therefore against my human nature. Having a sick child would make me think twice but since there is no cure for my kid, it's better to be a loving father while I still have him, than be away working all the time in order to make money to keep him alive. 1 Alpert, Mark.
