syndication The process of making a summary of a Web sites information available to other Web sites and applications
Web feed The list of items such as blog posts, news headlines and other frequently updated Web content, that are being shared
Feed reader Apllications and devices that access web feeds of blogs and Web sites that have been subscribed to by a user and deliver any new content
RSS Really simple syndication--one of the first and most popular types of Web feeds, contains a summary of information about a blog or Web site, allows bloggers to follow many blogs without having to manually check for updates
publish/subscribe model This illustrates how a feed reader application checks a user's subscribed feeds for updated information thus ensuring that users recieve newly published content to which they subscribe
Web gadget This allows you to embed or view the content of a Web feed on a blog's sidebar
XML Extensible Markup Language--uses code to describe titels, content, and publication dates of Web feeds but does not supply instructions for how to display the items, no formatting information, underlying technology used for describing syndicated content
