Berkeley, PHYSICS 250
Excerpt: ... Physics 250 Fall 2008 Homework and Notes 1 Due Friday, September 5, 2008 About Homework: I will try to have weekly homework, but there may be some weeks without it. Nakahara's problems are usually not very good, so I will try to do better. The homework will be made available on the web site by Friday of each week, and will be due at 5pm on Friday of the following week, in the envelope hanging outside my office (449 Birge). In any homework exercise marked "DTB" (meaning, "Done This Before"), you may get full credit by simply stating, "DTB". Please also say where you have done it before, such as, "Math 799 at Appalachian State Teacher's College" or "Self Study". Reading Assignment: Lecture notes for 8/28/08, Nakahara, Chapter 1. Also please read into Chapter 2 of Nakahara to cover approximately the same material as in the lecture notes. I won't quote page numbers because at this point I don't have a copy of Nakahara's 2nd edition, but I'll try to do that in the future. 1. (DTB) A common way to obtain equivale ...

Excerpt: ... Kennedy 1 Kate Kennedy Dr. Bsumek SCOM 240 20 March 2008 Madison Cup Debate Assignment I attended the 11:00 debate in Taylor Hall. For a bit of background information, the teams debating for the affirmative were Appalachian State , Johns Hopkins, and University of Mary Washington. On the other side, the debaters were from CSU Chico, Clarion University, and Liberty. The debate was about whether or not the United States should chart a new course toward peace in the Middle East. This debate was incredibly interesting given the requirements of this assignment as I was looking more into how believable the speaker was as opposed to whether or not agreed with their point of view. As the speakers took the podium, they were all sure to introduce themselves as well as thank JMU for hosting the event. Not one of the speakers forgot to thank the judges, the audience, and JMU. I believe that this helped the audience feel important and captivated by the speaker immediately, as they felt they were somewhat important. The fir ...

Excerpt: ... My Philosophy My name is Debbie Reese and I am a senior at Appalachian State University. I am majoring in Physical Education with Teacher Licensure, with a minor in Health Education and endorsement in Human Studies. My intended graduation is May of 2008. Through the use of my personal philosophy about physical education, NASPE Content Standards, and my own experiences, I believe that I can and will make a difference in the lives of children. To me, teaching is a very demanding job and requires countless hours of time and plenty of effort on my part. I believe that my determination and commitment will help me in going above and beyond the expectations that I am given as a teacher. I plan to coach high school sports teams as well, and my competitiveness and optimism will aid in the success and growth of my program. I know and believe that every child has their own unique way of learning, whether it is visual, linguistic, or kinesthetic. It is my job and responsibility as an educator to discover how each child l ...

lu womens soccer game
Longwood, HIST 101
Excerpt: ... LU Athletic Event: Women's' Soccer Philip Kada The Longwood athletics event that I chose to attend was a women's soccer game at home against Appalachian State University. The reason I attended the event was because my hall mate and I are soccer fans and we heard about the face off at the home soccer field. What I learned from going to watch the soccer match was that the soccer field is located far from campus, about a twenty minute uphill walk. The women's team faired well against the seasoned D-1 Appalachian State team and held a 0-0 tie at the end of regulation time. The game went into overtime and App State eventually scored on Longwood, ending the game. I witnessed that the women's team was not very disappointed with the loss and imagine that because they played a good game, putting all their effort in, but just coming up short. I feel like I know where they are coming from because our cross country team doesn't always win, but we put 100 percent of our dedication into training and competition just ...
