The Course Hero Knowledge Drive has a simple yet powerful mission: to build a brighter academic future for students all over the world. To accomplish that, Course Hero joined forces with Books for Africa in November of 2010 and pledged to donate 1 book to a child abroad for every 10 academic documents contributed to CourseHero.com. With your help, and with the help of students and teachers across the globe, we are adding to the powerful academic resource we provide, while giving children in Africa the gift of education and the opportunity for a better quality of life.

Course Hero selected Books for Africa as the partner for the Knowledge Drive because of its unrivaled commitment to the entire landscape of education. Books for Africa is the largest shipper of donated books to the African continent and has received the highest rating for a non–profit charity by Charity Navigator 12 times since 2002. In addition to their top rating, Books for Africa is ranked as one of the most efficient private charities in the country and is among the best at making sure that each donated dollar actually helps improve the lives of those that are being served and supported.
The Knowledge Drive is currently committed to the 1 Million Books for Gambia project which is working to build and provide books for a number of schools, libraries, and medical teaching facilities.
By supplying books and ensuring that they actually make it to these facilities, we can support and amplify long–lasting, sustainable change. To learn more about how these books impact educational outcomes in Africa, click here.
Books have an unrivaled ability to open a student’s mind to new ideas and possibilities. This leads to the challenging of existing stagnant social, economic, and political structures in struggling regions, which are severely in need of bright young minds to reform and strengthen them from the inside out.
After taking into account the curricula and school plans that have been developed, books are provided to directly assist what is being taught in the classroom. Math, Science, and English are by far the most common subjects that are requested, and the books provided are in English, as that is the official language of The Gambia. Various other books, from children’s books to novels, are also provided to help support the curriculum of each participating school.
We think it’s best to let those involved speak for themselves! Below are just a handful of the amazing responses to the 1 Million Books for Gambia project:
“We’re grateful for such wonderful books. The container was offloaded by schoolchildren, who were so excited. The next day, all benefiting schools sent their representative to receive their books. Children from all the different schools were delighted. If America wasn’t so far, we could come and thank the entire Books For Africa team!” - Mrs. Nyima Sanyang, Senior Teacher, Banjul Lower Basic School, The Gambia
“We wish to express our appreciation to Books For Africa. The books you gave will go a long way to increase our knowledge. The teachers, students and the school community were very happy. We thank you very much for the wonderful gesture” - Mr. Bah, Chomen Lower Basic School, The Gambia
“We organized a successful book presentation on Tuesday at the Kafuta Lower Basic School. We truly appreciate this support as it will help transform the lives of the children in our communities. Looking forward to working with you more.” - Alieu Sowe, Kafuta Community Library, The Gambia

Yes! The Knowledge Drive is a representation of our commitment to improving the entire educational landscape, both here and abroad. Beyond just providing great resources and donating books, we want to make sure we are doing everything possible to benefit the children and students we are supporting abroad.
One of Course Hero’s team members traveled to The Gambia to help hand deliver 44,000 books to the schools, libraries, and medical facilities that we are working to support. The trip spanned the entire country, and the delivery team walked across a major portion of The Gambia to deliver books and raise education awareness.
If you want to contribute your own academic materials and help donate books to children abroad, you can get started right away by heading over to our registration page. The Knowledge Drive is a completely philanthropic initiative and is completely free for you and your friends to support.
