He must be driven out in order for the plague to end. Creon tells the story of Laius’s murder While Laius was on the way to an oracle, Laius and all of his fellow travelers were murdered by thieves The murders were not found because the people were currently more concerned with the curse of the Sphinx Oedipus wants to find out the mystery of Laius’s murder The chorus calls on the gods Apollo, Athena and Artemis to save Thebes The chorus invokes Dionysus (whose mother was a Theban) Oedipus says he will end the plaque himself He asks who murdered Laius and says that the information will be paid and the murderer will only be exiled The leader of the chorus tells Oedipus to call for Tiresias who is a prophet, and Oedipus says he has already called on him A boy leads the blind prophet Tiresias
