Fall 2007 College of St. Benedict/St. John’s University Sociology 111 – 01A Introduction to Sociology Cycle 1-3-5 11:20-12:30 Simons 360 Dr. Liddy Hope Office Hours: lhope@csbsju.edu 1-3-5 days 9:30-11 Simons 138 Course Description and Goals This is an introductory course in Sociology, designed to increase your understanding of contemporary American society. To accomplish this, we will examine the social forces shaping society, the social institutions and their impact on the lives of individuals, and the ways in which people interact in various social settings. We will also look at how inequalities in wealth, race and gender affect individuals and groups. Throughout our inquiry, we will use multiple sociological theories to best understand each issue.
