Jake Terefenko OSEH 120 Internet Research Assignment 2 A recent product safety issue is the wrist straps on Nintendo Wii controllers break causing harm to bystanders or objects. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission web site (http://cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml07/07061.html) says that Nintendo has received many reports of wrist straps breaking, including three reports of minor injuries and many broken television screens. All of these incidents occurred when consumers were playing the game Wii Sports. Nintendo acknowledges the problem with the Wii remote wrist straps and says that any Wii remote bought before December 31, 2006 can be replaced for free. On their web site (http:// www.nintendo.com/consumer/strapreplace.jsp) Nintendo says if you have the original version of the strap all you have to do is fill out a form and they will send you replacement straps for free. Also they apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for buying their products. Both the Nintendo web site and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission web site provide helpful information regarding the Wii controller straps. But the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission tells consumers about the injuries and other reasons the Wii remote straps are being replaced whereas Nintendo just says that the original straps can malfunction and that they will replace them. This topic does not really pertain to any major, but it is of interest to me because a close friend on mine owns a Wii that was bought before December 31, 2006, and also owns a very nice television. These websites have convinced her to go to the Nintendo web site and get the replacement straps for her Wii controllers....
