1.) According to many historians there were three of the greatest contributions to mathematics. The first one is the Greek invention of strict deductive reasoning. Strict deductive reasoning is the formal step-by-step repetitive thinking pattern of reason. In today’s math, students are introduced to this when they must prove geometric theorems. Also, deductive reasoning is one of the two basic forms of valid reasoning. While inductive reasoning argues from the particular to the general, deductive reasoning argues from the general to a specific instance. The second was when the Italian and French development of symbolic algebra during the Renaissance. Historians find it difficult to pinpoint the exact period in which symbolic algebra came into existence but it truly was a mathematical breakthrough. Symbolic logic is the use of a mathematical device that may provide as an alternate technique to determine limits. The last great contribution to mathematics is the uniting of number, form, and continuity. Bringing these things together resulted in the generation of calculus and analyses as well as the invention of Analytic geometry. I would have to agree with what the historians said as the greatest contributions. Although there were many great things that came before these, the ones that are considered the great were built off of the old. As an example, symbolic algebra can be dated back to nearly four hundred years. Therefore, the algebra must have been improved through out the years. All of these contributions go through the same thing. One person comes up with the idea and during the next few centuries others go over it and make it better and more logical.
2.) Scholarship is the mastery of existing knowledge or skills. Creativity is associated
