Lauren Furlong February 12, 2008 Psych 101 The Four Goal of Psychology The four goals of psychology are meant to uncover the mysteries of human and animal behavior. The goals include description, explanation, prediction, and control. These four goals are very beneficial in bettering ones lifestyle. Each goal corresponds to a question that helps with research, and the reasons behind the abnormal behavior that is occurring. The first goal, description, corresponds to the question “what is happening?” Description literally means to observe a behavior and take note of everything about it, including what is happening, where it’s happening, to whom is it happening, and what circumstances is it happening under. For example, a teacher may notice a young boy having trouble focusing in class. He is very bright, but always needs extra time during exams, and is constantly asking her to repeat herself during note taking time. This description of the boy’s behavior is the starting point for the next goal of psychology. To
