Daniel Valiente English1101/Staton Novel/Option #3 14 March 2013 The Alchemist The novel pilots off with the main character, Santiago, an Andalusian shepherd boy, who is conflicted by a dream of finding treasure by the Egyptian Pyramids, though is quite hesitant to pursue his dream. Along the boys’ travels he is pressed by several sub characters to take upon this journey in order to fulfill his personal legend. A gypsy, who validates his dream by reading his palm, and a King of Salem, are the motivating factors which cause him to embark on his journey after all. Being unfamiliar with anywhere than his home town is confronted by a daunting thief who halts his ambition for few months. Soon after his misfortune, he became acquainted with a crystal merchant who offered the boy employment. Overtime, the young shepherd earned enough to join a caravan on route for the pyramids, where he would meet the Englishman. My objective is to find the one and only true Alchemist, who will finally teach me the true art of converting lead into gold. I have joined a caravan that will bring me to the
