2ProposalIncrease telehealth communication with clients to reduce healthcare costs for patients. Evidence Based RationaleBackground InformationThe usage of telehealth has drastically increased due to the recent pandemic. I feel it would be beneficial to increase telehealth communication even after the virus is fully controlled because it comes with so many benefits. It can combat the shortage of workforce personnel, it provides access to specialists for individuals in rural areas, but most importantly it can decrease the cost of healthcare. There are many other benefits that come with switching patients to telemedicine, but these are a few of the most important reasons in my own opinion and experience. Technology is improving every day, so it is important that it is being utilized to its fullest and each healthcare facility is integrating and utilizing this newer technology as it becomes available. Other medical institutions are using the pandemic as an opportunity to perfect a telehealth plan that will be used for years to come. Currently an estimated 60-90% of physicians are using some type of telehealth for communicating with patients and half of these individuals are utilizing this resource for the first time (Strazewski, 2020). This shows that it is possible for almost everyone to be utilizing this resource. Evidence-based research findingsSome individuals simply prefer the telehealth approach to care, “According to a recent Cisco global survey, 74% of patients prefer easy access to healthcare services over in-person
3interactions with providers” (eVisit, 2020). This shows that individuals are pleased with the care they are receiving and that it has been beneficial. It helps reduce patient wait time and some individuals feel more comfortable via a screen rather than face to face in an office when discussing health issues. It also makes specialist more available to individuals in rural areas. “In the U.S., for every 100,000 rural patients, there are only 43 specialists available” (eVisit, 2020). This is mind boggling to me. If telehealth can help to improve this number why would we not be utilizing this resource as frequently as possible. Humans from rural areas are hurting and dying due to a lack of resources and if a screen and some internet can improve this it is very important to make this a
