MIS 320 HW # 3 Executive Summary Being a professional PC game tester for several different companies, I am always on the go. The issue with always being away from my desktop is that I cannot test games. I would like to own the Alienware 18 laptop for business use. Although it is big, it is also portable, and most importantly, very powerful. With the computing power of the Alienware 18, I would be able to spot glitches and problems within a game just as effectively as if I were working on my desktop. For a limited time, Dell is offering the laptop for $3,714.10 instead of $4,049.00. With the Alienware 18, I would be able to double the number of games I am able to test within a given period. Problem Statement The main problem I face in testing games is using my personal laptop. As stated previously, I am always away from my work or home desktops doing something for a client or making presentations, usually out of state. I am not able to accomplish the tasks that have been assigned to me with the available time I have at one of my desktops, and it is next to impossible to find a computer to use with sufficient power at the places that I travel to. If I am to remain pertinent in this firm, it is imperative that this problem be dealt with.
My old laptop is simply is incapable of performing the tasks that I do daily. It is a three-year-old Toshiba that does not have sufficient computing power. The processor, RAM, hard drive, and graphics card are inadequate to perform the functions that I need. My current laptop only has 4 GB of RAM that operates at a measly 400 MHZ. It has a dual core processor with a clocked processor speed of 1.8 GHZ and a maximum turbo frequency of 2.4 GHZ.
