The Goal Essay When I first bought this book for my class I thought it would be another boring book with tons of professional terms. What I found later on, it was exact opposite. I started to read this book late in the evening, and I could not stop. I read the first 20 chapters in around three days. The storyline of this book is very intriguing; you can’t stop wondering what will happen next. The main character of the book Alex Rogo is a plant manager. His plant has issues with producing and shipping parts on time. So the vice president told Alex if the plant won’t become profitable in 3 months the owner will shut it down and sell to the highest bidder. First of all they have a lot of overdue orders, by shifting all the people to overdue orders, the plant is losing money. While trying to solve current problems of the plant Alex remembers his old Professor Jonah. Johan predicts the problems of high inventories and not meeting shipping dates. In other words, he was talking about Theory of Constraints. This theory is very useful in plant management. It is similar to brainstorming at some point. It shows what to change, how to change, and what methods to use. If you want to be a successful manager you should definitely keep this theory in mind. It won’t help you to solve all the problems but it will definitely help you to identify problem and possible solutions or changes to be made. The Theory of Constraints has several changing process methods. In this book, the author explains all of them as a mix. You have to know what the real goal is in order to reach it. You also have to think about implementing. Will this new feature make plant profitable or not? For example, implementing robots was not as great as it seems.
