READING REFLECTION 7 2 Reading Reflection 7 Questions 1, 2 and 3 Direct instruction is a method of teaching that involves presenting information to students in a very structured and straightforward way. This method also requires the teacher to set up a clear schedule for the class time to complete the objective of teaching and discussing a certain list of topics. Direct instruction is best used when teaching very cut-and-dry material and educational basics that all students need to know in order to build off of. This could mean simple grammar rules, mathematical formulas, and scientific definitions. It is less effective, however, to use direct instruction for more idea-based and conceptual topics. You could not, for example, use direct instruction to effectively analyze a piece of romantic literature or dive into unproven scientific theories (Slavin 2018).
