Jackson Cellers February 12, 2008 Movie Synopsis Design II Cross Creek Martin Ritt produced cross Creek. The movie stars Mary Steenburgen, Rip Torn, Peter Coyote and Dana Hill. The story introduces a frustrated writer who aspires to create the next great American novel. The aspiring author, Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings leaves everything behind and moves to Cross Creek, Florida to focus on her publications. Marjorie leaves her husband and career to an isolated orange grove in Cross Creek to focus on her fiction novel. She planned on living off of the profit from the orange grove, but the grove has been left unkempt for some time. The state of the grove quickly improves with the intense help from neighbors and hired hands. She also works rigorously to discard presumptions of her as a woman. She strives to prove her independence. All of the work to turn the grove around interrupted her attempt to write a gothic fiction novel.
