Dina Costanzo College Writing 1101 Professor Poss 2/7/08 Essay #1 Students have pressure on them to do well in school because society has changed. If you don’t receive a proper education, than you are more likely to have a low-paying job and be looked down upon. It is taught that the better the education you have, the better your life will be. Education gives everyone an equal opportunity. Education is a tool that will help you throughout your life. It is accomplished most successfully when you apply yourself to your school work. Teachers and parents can only take you so far. You have to actually want to learn and do the work. Teachers are a major aspect of your learning. They have to be open to the idea that some children need extra time and help to better their understanding. If you have a teacher that tries to force you to learn, your probably going to slack off and not want to do the work. In the short story School is Bad for Children , the teacher says, “If we don’t make you read, you won’t, and if you don’t do it exactly the way we tell you, you can’t” (Kirszner, Mandell 87).
