Farid Iqbal Gwrit 103/ Coe 2/24/08 Obese and Overweight Children (Audience: parents w/ children ages 3-15) Almost everyone has thought to themselves, prior to having kids, what their children will be like and how they want them to be. However who really aspires to have an obese kid with many possible health problems? The percentile of obese and overweight children in the United States is growing at an alarming rate and although societal factors contribute to it, it is up to parents to stop it. In today’s world it is easy to find the quickest or effortless way to do things, but that does not often translate into a healthy lifestyle. More and more kids are spending way too much time in front of electronics, and not nearly enough time participating in physical activities. Moreover, the steps parents must take to insure a brighter and healthier lifestyle for their children include maintaining a balanced diet, promoting the participation of physical activity, and limiting certain activities such as the television and computer to a more appropriate interval. The first step is determining if the child is overweight.
