1EST 504 (Remmenga) Chapter 10: Options in the REG procedure DATA SET 1. Use the Gifted data set described below. (I will call the SAS ® data set, GIFT.) The GIFT data set can be found at my E ST 504 website ( http://web.NMSU.Edu/~martarem/EST_504.htm). Read it into SAS ® however you like. Description of Data Set An investigator is interested in understanding the relationship, if any, between the analytical skills of young gifted children and the following predictor variables: X 1 = father’s IQ, X 2 = mothers’s IQ, X 3 = age (months) when the child first said “mommy” or “daddy”, X 4 = age (months) when the child first counted to 10 successfully, X 5 = average number of hours per week the child’s mother or father read to the child, X 6 = average number of hours per week the child watched an educational program on TV during the past three months and, X 7 = average number of hours per week the child watched cartoons on TV during the past three months. Analytical skills are evaluated using a standard testing procedure and the score on this test is used as the response variable, Y. Data were collected from schools in a large city on a set of thirty-six children who were identified as gifted children soon after they reached the age of four years. SAS PROGRAMMING 2. Suppose that we want to predict analytical skills (Y) from the educational tv watching (X6). a.
