This preview shows page 1 - 2 out of 3 pages.

Chapter 39 What are the stimuli plants respond to? Gravity, light, pressure, attacks from predator Define signaling? Chemical change in the cell due to a change in stimuli What are hormones? What properties must hormones have? Must be water soluble What are the types of hormones? Lipid soluble: Small and Can pass through membrane and bind to intracellular protein or go directly to target DNA sequence Lipid insoluble: Binds to receptor which makes it change confirmation What is ethylene? A gas signaling molecule for plant Describe the properties that gases share? Most are really small and can pass lipid membrane What does phosphorylating proteins do? It activates a protein? What is an example of a second messenger? calcium What is the first messenger? The hormone that binds to membrane receptor What is a chemical based response for a receptor? When it changes shape/confirmation What two things can result when protein has a chemical based response due to hormone binding? Either a >Phosphorylation cascade >A protein is activated which releases second messenger After phosphorylation cascade or calcium release, what results afterwards?

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
