Frequently Asked Questions for BIMM116/PSYC133At the beginning of the quarter1.What should I do when I have a question—send you an email? The first thing youshould do is check the syllabus, then this FAQ and the announcement board on TED. If youdon’t see an answer there and it is a question your TA can help you with, ask your TA atsection or office hour. If none of these options works for your situation, email one of yourinstructors or come to office hour. Put BIMM116 or PSYC133 in the subject line of emails.2.A book calledChronobiology Biological Timekeepingwas listed on a website relatedto this class. Do I need to buy it?We will post assigned readings on TED, which you arerequired to read. You are not required to buy a text. There’s no one book that covers all ofthe material of the class well. However, in the past we have used this book, which you mayfind helpful (but consider that it is over a decade old). Dunlap, JC, Loros, JJ, andDeCoursey, PJ,Editors.Chronobiology: Biological Timekeeping.April 2003.ISBN 0-87893-149-X.It is available on reserve at the biomedical library.3.Do I need an i>clicker? If so, which one?Yes, you need one if you want to earn extracredit for class attendance, and either the original or i>clicker2 (or whatever generationthey’ve come up with recently) will be OK. We aren’t set up to use the iPhone app – youneed a real i>clicker.4.I have a clicker, but it isn’t i>Clicker, it’s another brand. Can I use it?Only the i>Clickerbrand is useful for this course; another brand won’t work with the receiver. i>Clicker is theUCSD standard now.5.How do I register my i>clicker? The easiest way is to use a tool within TED. On the classhomepage you will see a link on the left that says "i>clicker." If for whatever reason youprefer to go to and click the link that says "Register your i>clicker," pleaseregister the USERNAME you use for logging on to TED (not your PID).6.I am borrowing an i>Clicker from my friend who just bought it used online. However, the registration code is so faded on the back that I can't read it. What should I do toregister my i>Clicker?First step, take out the battery. You should be able to read the codeinside the battery compartment. If for some reason you still can’t, check with your instructorsafter class period or during office hours.7.It’s week three and I just now registered my i>clicker. My points from beforeregistration don’t show up in TED. How do I get those points?Once you register youri>clicker the software can associate your points with you for clicks that were logged beforeyour registration. However, i>clicker doesn’t directly send scores to TED: your instructorshave to upload those data. If we already uploaded those class period data before youregistered your i>clicker, your data won’t be there. We are willing to go back and check forun-registered points only up till the first midterm. It is your responsibility to register youri>clicker and make sure your points are showing up in TED.
