How many kcal do you need per 24-hour period? What factors affect your energy need? Will lipids in your diet serve the same energy role as carbohydrates? Are all lipids bad for you? What are “ essential fatty acids ”?

Some nutrients are essential for building body parts Such dietary requirements include organic nutrients such as certain fatty acids and a variety of proteins . Essential fatty acids include, for example, linolenic acid, linoleic acid, and oleic acid-- referred to today by laypeople as “omega-3, -6, and -9 fatty acids, respectively. We would not be able to produce steroid hormones, for example, without such fatty acids. Without proteins, we would not have the source of amino acids that we require for making many critically important proteins in our body. Our bodies can produce only 11 of the 20 amino acids that we need; we must acquire the other 9 in our varied diet. Can you think of some such proteins that we have discussed in class?
