Canadian Federalism2Federalism in Canada has significantly changed over time since the confederation fromthe transparent sharing of powers from both the central and regional governments in the earlyyears of the republic to greater intermingling and current cooperation and conflict. The reformedconstitution has played a significant role in reshaping confederation in recent times, as discussedin the paper. The new requirements of the renewed constitution include most which alter theworkings of Canada's federation, such as the expansion of provincial powers, the entrenchmentof language rights regarding schooling, the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, which affordsadequate lawful protection of people's rights than the Canadian Bill of Rights; and the increasedimportance of the courts in interpreting and protecting of individual rights.
