Ashley Alcantara Professor Johnston ENC1101 4 July 2021 Changing the Face of Poverty There are different aspects to the misrepresentation of poverty. The essay "Changing the Face of Poverty" by Diana George talks about how nonprofit organizations in America misrepresent the face of poverty. The way we portray poverty in America is wrong. Some ways of misrepresentation is depicting false representation, what poverty is supposed to look like and people who are deprived of the basic needs. George, as an example, uses Habitat for Humanity’s videos to exemplify her frustration with the perception of how poverty is seen today. She expressed, “To be clear, then, I am not criticizing the work of Habitat for Humanity.” (George pg.728). She is not criticizing their work, but she is not happy with the methods Habitat for Humanity have used to achieve their work. Nowadays, most organizations use flyers and ads to make the need look like they are from the Depression Era. Therefore, making us think that it is easy to point out what poverty looks like in
