On November 27th, Wil Trapp was named the United States Soccer Young Male Athlete of the Year. Born and raised in Ohio, the 20-year-old midfielder plays for the Columbus Crew and is one of the many reasons to be excited about the team’s future. He is arguably the most notable up and coming talents in the MLS, and has already had experience playing on the under-20 Men’s National Team. In winning this award, Trapp joins a club of well-known and successful soccer players, including Landon Donovan, Jozy Altidore, Clint Dempsey, to name a few. When asked about winning the award, Trapp described it as humbling, “It’s hard to put into words right now. It’s an honor to be recognized and seen by your peers and the country as a whole.” Even more impressive, this was Trapp’s first season at the professional level. Trapp’s individual accomplishment is among a handful of off-season high notes for the Crew. New Head Coach Gregg Berhalter is already making his mark on the team.
