CASE STUDY 1:INTRODUCTIONIn order to prevent Covid-19 from spreading to other people especially elderly and kids, facemask must be use at all time especially in crowded places. Besides other develop country,Malaysia has implemented a mandatory mask-wearing in crowded places since the beginning ofCovid-19 spread. Either the person is in a healthy condition or not, all level of citizens isobligated to wear a face mask. Ask a precautions steps, government has currently suggestedpeople to wear a double face mask to ensure more safety from being affected from Covid-19.PROBLEM STATEMENTWhen wearing a face mask, people cannot see and express their facial expression. It causes anissue for people to show their non-verbal communication to others. Face mask provide a smallblock of their facial expression which could be used to express feelings and emotions. A facialexpression is one of the non-verbal ways that can be used to communicate with others. Withoutfacial expression, it can be a problem for people to interpret the message or information in aninterpersonal communication.Effect of Face Masks on Interpersonal Communication During the COVID-19 PandemicDATA ANALYSISThe issues of this case study are that face mask make it difficult to connect with others.However, it is essential to prevent from Covid-19 from spreading. This issue occurs whenpeople need to include facial expression when communicating with others. A lot of this occurs ata crowded or loud places such as at food court, construction side or any loud noise places. Thiscauses people to use their non-verbal way of communication as verbal communication are noteffectively used. People such as waiter, customer services worker and cashier at shopping mall
generally apply their facial expression when interacting with customers. They must express theirsmile and appreciation to the customers to influence the customer perception towards theorganization.CONCLUSIONAs a conclusion, face mask has caused a small problem in implementing non-verbalcommunication.However, there are several other ways that can be used to express non-verbalcommunication such as eye contact, hand gestures and body movement. Even without facialexpression, interpersonal communication can still be improved and enhanced by other ways ofinteractions.
