South 1Maya SouthLight a Key Component for Photosynthesis - Photosynthesis LabPurpose:The purpose for this lab is to find out if light is indeed a necessary component forphotosynthesis to occur in the plantHypothesis:We know that green plants synthesize simple sugar in the presence of sunlight usingcarbon dioxide from the atmosphere and water from the soil. This simple sugar (glucose) is laterconverted to starch. So if we limit the sunlight a plant was getting for a long period of time andthen expose the same plant to sunlight for a short period of time while keeping part of it covered,we could then test for the presence of starch by using iodine solution to reveal if light isnecessary in photosynthesis. If starch is present the colour of the leaf would become ablack/blue colour.Materials:-A potted plant (preferably a plant with wide leaves)-Water bath-Large test tube-Ethanol, Isopropanol or Methylated spirit-Aqueous Iodine solution-Petridish-Forceps-A piece of balck paper-
