Matthew Bickers Prof. Leif Hoffman Modern World Governments February 6, 2008 News Review : Kenya Once again, Kenya’s opposition party has threatened mass rallies in Nairobi Wednesday to stop a meeting of African foreign ministers. The opposition Orange Democratic Movement claims they were not notified of this meeting so it shouldn’t take place. They have not said where they are planning the protests but “will make sure the meeting does not take place here”(Rosenberg). The rallies, which have already caused a number of deaths, are over the disputed recent election of December 27, 2007 that put President Mwai Kibaki in office for another 5 years. Opposition leader, Raila Odinga, and observers claim the election was rigged and demand a new one soon. The United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon said the two leaders are “personally accountable” for Kenya’s future and that they are responsible for the recent downfall of Kenya’s economy (afrol).
