Culture cannot be identified as a fixed entity but is a useful heuristic (to discover) which plays a major role in shaping and directing society. A culture is a collection of elements such as beliefs and principles, history, and acceptable behavior that influence people's thoughts, acts, and possessions in a community. Culture is often governed by rules, mores, folkways, and standards, many of which are linked to how people conduct their lives. Humans cannot live without civilization, because there would be no culture if humans did not exist (Lumen Learning, n.d.).
