Gloria Veneziale 10.31.13 CEP 260 Gender Roles in Advertising The first commercial I chose was the 2013 Go Daddy super bowl commercial and it depicts only two women and one man in the frame with one of the women speaking about the website. The commercial explains how the extremely beautiful woman represents the sexiness of the website and the overly nerdy man represents the smarts of the website and how “together” they create the perfect website for your small business. This is a prime example of social role theory in which the gender differences are extremely exaggerated by depicting the woman as overly sexualized and the smart man portrayed as an extreme tech-nerd. Societies expectations would not picture this “couple” to happen in real life but the social constructionism of the commercial is influenced by Go Daddy to make people think that their website combines sexiness and smarts in the perfect combination via hot girl and dorky boy.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
