Exam 1Rebecca SiverainJuly 5, 2021Ameenah ShakirThe expansion of slavery was as a result of many different factors and one which was themost important contribution, slaves themselves. European settlements in Africa opened thediscovery of slaves which was done as a form of payment back to those whom families hadborrowed goods from. The Europeans saw this as an opportunity and took upon it. They did thisby taking advantage of their riches and the lack of them in most if not all African countries.Things like ships and weapons were not a thing to Africans and if they did have somethingsimilar; it was not as effective as the ones the Europeans carried. So, trading beginned and theysold their resources and in return they received slaves. The Europeans had different ideas fortheir slaves though, they wanted to take complete control over all slave trade and sell themamongst Europeans only. Wade Hampton for example was the first to transport slavery to cotonpicking which increased the popularity of slaves since coton was a big thing during 1619s. Theselling and buying of slaves increased and got more and more brutal for the individuals that wereforced into slavery. To begin, the diasporic Africans brought to the New World, now known as “AfricanAmericans,”were a mixture of individuals from different parts of Africa. These people werebasically stripped of their culture and traditions and were forced to adapt to this “New world.”
