The case study I chose is Case 3:2 The Trouble with Grit. This case study is about a student named Samantha, who lives with her mother and siblings and is poverty stricken. Her teacher, Ms. Grady is concerned that Samantha will not receive the grade she is capable of because she does not complete her homework and she believes it is because her mother does not care about her education (Gorski & Pothini, 2018). There were several problems displayed in case study. Ms. Grady became concerned about Samantha not completing her homework which affected her grade in the class. A major problem arose when Ms. Grady began making assumptions about Samantha’s work ethic when approaching her about the homework rather thanasking Samantha why she hadn't completed her homework (Gorski & Pothini, 2018). This led to another problem when Ms. Grady approached Mr. Burns, another teacher, about Samantha’s situation and made assumptions about Samantha’s mother’s inability to teach Samantha to have a mindset to better herself in front of Mr. Burns, which insulted him because he grew up in a poverty stricken home as well (Gorski & Pothini, 2018).
