French 424 – Final Exam Questions for Part II Fall 2007 Part I - treats individual items – general information and importance in short answer format. Part II - Three of the following five questions will be on the final. On the day of the exam, two will be pre-selected for you, and of the remaining three, you will choose one you wish to answer. Please note: try to be as concise as possible -- your answers for each should be a paragraph of about 150 words. Make sure as you prepare that you support your answers with clearly identified examples and always remember to identify the film, release year and director for each film you discuss . *** 1. Choose two directors that best use the narrative technique of “flight” or “escape” to create a crisis point for their film’s protagonists. What cultural crisis is portrayed in each and what is the visual context (how the director chooses to film it)? Finally, what could be the symbolic/metaphoric significance of each?
