Magic Realism“Magic realism” is a style of writing or way of narration, where magical ideas are put into realistic ideas and happening. This is done for an interesting style that will showa more in depth understanding of reality. The first story is “Phantom Palace” by, Isabel Allende, a famous female writer known for her style of “magic realism.” The story is about Spanish conquistadors coming to a land already inhibited by Indians. Right from the beginning of the story we see great examples of “magic realism.” We see this when the Spanish men say they have “discovered” a new land. This is not true as the Indians have been living there for years. They also show superiority when they name the land “San Jeronimo” a name that the natives cannot pronounce. The natives avoid confrontation with the strangers and hide away from them for years as if they were the strangers.
