2Assignment: Decision Tree for Neurological and Musculoskeletal DisordersAlzheimer’s disease is a neurocognitive disorder responsible for upwards of 80% of current Dementia diagnoses (Weller & Budson, 2018). Diagnosis is based on several factors, including clinical presentation, amyloid plaque, and diagnostic imaging (Weller & Budson, 2018). Treatment is based on symptom management of neurocognitive symptoms, with the expectation of an eventual decline in cognitive functioning (Weller & Budson, 2018). The following is a case study regarding the decision tree for medication prescribing for this patient. The medicationthat was prescribed, the results reviewed, and medication changes for desired effects were discussed. Patient Case-StudyMr. Akkad is a 76-year-old male that presents with family due to declined functioning and bizarre behavior (Laurate Education, 2019). This patient has had a decline in cognitive functioning for the last several years. Upon examination, the patient is alert and oriented x1 (person only) with impaired judgment (Laurate Education, 2019). Mini-mental status exam scored an 18 and suggested moderate dementia, with the presumptive diagnosis as a major neurocognitive disorder due to Alzheimer’s disease (Laurate Education, 2019).
