November 14, 2013 19 th Century American South Research Paper The Devastating Effects and Legacy of the Ku Klux Klan In South Carolina The Ku Klux Klan during the Reconstruction Era was a truly merciless, racist, malevolent terrorist organization that promoted radical and violent acts toward African Americans. The Klan was a very organized terrorist program that caused horrific acts of violence and murder, a lot of which were committed in South Carolina. While the Klan was very violent, a large goal they had was to be a very secretive organization that was very exclusive.
