Assignment 2 PAGE 73, Q 3 1. How much did Danaher have to change the way it conducted business to take advantage of the SupplyWorks software? What were the changes? Before I mention the change let me first define what SupplyWorks means! The SupplyWork system operates over the Web, with SupplyWorks providing the servers and their administration. (Text-book pg.72) This program was found to lower costs by purchasing more supplies from overseas vendors. Therefore, some changes were taken to change the company strategy; First, the Danaher switched from card-based kanban system (it is a Japanese method of supply chain management instead of relying on a manufacturing resource planning system.) into an electronic kanban system. Second, combined the plant’s Mapics inventory database with the SupplyWorks system. Third, this strategy increased the shipping and leaded times for parts and that buyer has to devote time to researching new vendors overseas. Thus, as the book stated, that the result showed that 75.6 percent reduction in buyer activities, which was marked as a wasteful of 105 hours per week. What were the obstacles to change?
