And it is just accepted that as a member of American society, you will live by these laws. In West Canaan, Texas, there is another society which has its own laws. Football is a way of life (Varsity Blues).” In today’s society, sports play a big role. The sport positioned at the top above all else is football. In Varsity Blues , the town is centered around the football team, coaches, and players. This movie is a direct reflection of towns across America and the pedestal that they put their high school football players on. Are these high school athletes playing for the glory, the love of the game, or are they pushed by family members? In the movie, Jonathon Moxon, is promoted to the starting position when the star quarterback is sidelined with a season ending knee injury. Before he was the started, Moxon, put little effort into football and was just out there because he was forced to play by his dad. All he looked forward to was the end of the season and going to off to college. Once in the starting position, he started receiving attention and glory that he had never experienced before. Girl started talking to him that never paid him any attention never experienced before....
