Explainers 1. n – principle quantum number a. increases down a period b. larger n means more inner electrons, therefore more screening c. primary influence on trends 2. Z eff – aka Z effective a. increases left to right across a row b. larger Z eff due to increased number of protons c. influences trends when electrons are added into the same n shell Atomic Radius (size – based on the volume of an atom’s electron cloud) 1. Decreases moving left to right
