Hapner 1 Katrina Hapner Professor Perez LITR 322 11/8/14 BE A POET ANNE SEXTON I was born in 1928 in Massachusetts. Growing up I did not have a very good relationship with my mother. We loved each other, but there were times where we hated one another also. I grew up with very strict parents. In 1945 I attended Roger’s Hall boarding school and was first introduced to poetry there. I dabbled in writing some the, but was also interested in modeling. My mother was a writer so I was familiar with it. I worked as a fashion model for a while and got married in my teens. At age 25 I had my first child, quickly followed by my second child. I had very mixed emotions about being a mother. I did not start writing until after my second was born. I was very close to my aunt who had severe mental problems. In 1954 my aunt died which initiated my first bout with depression. My depression continued off and on and I endured institutionalization and suicidal ideation. My parents, especially my mother, never approved of any kind of psychiatric treatment. A lot of my writing came from experiences dealing with my mother. I like to write poetry that
