Chenette Michael Chenette Mrs. Friese March 7, 2008 ENG 102-014 Amontillado Analysis It is very unusual to view Montresor’s background values and still not understand why he killed Fortunado. He comes from a very prominent lifestyle with morals and values that are strictly kept and respected. Maybe it’s because of his upbringing and family lifestyle that brought him to the decision to kill Fortunado. Thompson asserts that because of his family motto, “Nemo me impune lacessit” (No one attacks me with impunity) , and because he was brought up with this motto as his philosophy on life brings us to the conclusion that Montresor has some firm, but stressed, values, which led to his killing Fortunado. I believe that Thompson makes a very good point. He states that the Montresor motto and what Montresor did is a metaphor for what people would do for their country. His makes his assumption by discussing Montresor’s background values. He makes some very convincing arguments defending this thought. Thompson argues that the reasoning
