Michael Chenette Professor Abdullah October 31, 2007 ENG 101 – 20322 Grade Level: 7.8 Famous War Quotation " The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his." ~~ General George S. Patton Jr. (1885-1945) This quote by General Patton is very famous. Patton was a WWII General, who led men fiercely and fought numerous campaigns against the Nazis. This quote means that every soldier fighting on the battlefield is ready to die for his or her country but does not want to die. What they want to do is to “make the other bastard die for his [country]” in order to live. George Smith Patton Jr. was a leading U.S. Army general in World War II in campaigns across North Africa, Sicily, France, and Germany during 1943–1945. Patton was generally unpopular with his troops because they did not like his methods or his attitude. In fact, there was an incident during the war that made General Patton lose his squad.
