Triple Aim Initiative
The Institute for Healthcare Improvement developed the Triple Aim Initiative as a
foundation to reach enhanced performance within the healthcare system. Simultaneously, the
three dimensions work to increase patient care quality and satisfaction, improve population
health, and benefit communities by decreasing the per capita cost of care (IHI, 2021).
The Institute of Healthcare Improvement (IHI) developed five components to help
develop its concept design of the Triple Aim Initiative. The five components include: managing
population health, implementing a platform for cost control, renovating primary care services,
making individuals and their families a primary focus, and implementing system execution and
integration methods (IHI, 2021).
Improvements
Quality of care throughout our nation is impaired due to our use of the fee-for-service
payment system. Healthcare institutions are seeing a high volume of patients who are being seen
for unnecessary care. The Triple Aim Initiative is upstream solutions to common problems and
access to more adequate, acute health care services. Patients will see improved and adequately
coordinated health care while businesses will see more competitive opportunities to stabilize or
reduce the per capita costs for populations. Quality of care and patient satisfaction rates are
expected to continue climbing with the Triple Aim Initiative (Nickitas, 2020).
Communities attaining the Triple Aim Initiative will have increasingly healthier
populations. Due to individuals within the communities receiving better-coordinated care, many
burdens of healthcare concerns will decrease. With reduced costs per capita, the communities

will have less financial burden managing their healthcare funding. The health and safety of
communities and the overall population will continue to grow to be more efficient (IHI, 2021).
Managerial Role
I am currently running the adult and geriatric behavioral health units. My priorities are to
deliver cost-effective quality care, enhance patient satisfaction, and improve our patients' safety.
To make each priority a success, I am continuously improving the efficiency of care delivery,
offering evidence-based care, and using a team-based and shared decision-making
approach (Cosgrove et al., 2013).
Improving Cost-Effective Quality Care
To enhance the care delivery that our patients receive, we must capitalize on our nurse's
capabilities. Efficient physicians begin with our well-efficient nurses; together, the physicians
