40TOPIC 11: FEMINIST ETHICSLearning Outcomes:At the end of this lesson, the students must have:1.Explained the necessity of feminism2.Discussed and articulated the idea that women’s right are human rights3.Recognized how women’s rights are abused and articulated possible paths toemancipation and equalityFEMINIST ETHICSEthics is a branch of philosophy studying the ways people define “right” and“wrong."The rolewomen play in defining a society’s moral character have beendownplayed in traditional ethics.Feminist Ethics is a field of study pointing out the ways in which women have beenneglected, and also creating more gender-balanced theories of ethics that can play animportant part in the pursuit of gender equality today.Traditional ethics divides the world into neat, binary categories:1.Masculine- based on intellect, independence, hierarchy and domination.2.Feminine-definedbyemotion,interdependence,communityandcooperation.Traditional ethics places much more value on the masculine traits, positioningmen as having superior characters by default, because a world organized aroundreason and logic has long been held to be the more perfect world.Traditional ethics is all about perfectionism and abstract ideals.
