Topic 2 DQ 1 Alzheimer's is a neurological disorder that results from the demise of some brain cells. As you mention, it is a type of dementia that affects memory, thinking and behavior. Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States, there were 5 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s disease in 2014, and this number will triple to 14 million by 2060 (Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention, 2021). The main contributing factors for Alzheimer Disease include head injury, hypertension, genetics, obesity, older age, sedentary lifestyle, smoking, and type 2 diabetes. It is best to keep the brain active with activities such as reading to decrease the risk. In addition, proper diet, physical activity, and adequate sleep play an essential role in health promotion for the disease (Falkner & Green, 2018). I agree that there is no standard cure or prevention for Alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer's patients should ensure they take medication as stipulated by the doctor. Notably, medicines alleviate the symptoms attributable to Alzheimer's but never cures the condition. The family of
