What are the major components of the motherboard? 1) The processor (CPU). This is the 'brain' of the computer 2) Memory (Ram) . This is where the computer stores information 3) The PCI or Expansion Slots . These are connectors that allow you to attach additional "cards" on the computer, such as video cards, sound cards, modems 4) BIOS (Basic Input /Output system) . a set of connectors that allows you to connect various devices to your computer, such as your keyboard, monitor, mouse, hard drives, flash drives, printers, and connect your computer to a network. 5) Heat Sink A heat exchanger that cools a device by dissipating heat into the surrounding medium All the chips on the motherboard together with the CMOS battery and the power supply connectors are known as the motherboards chip set.
